The Continental Society of Bermuda launched a back to school initiative and assisted families in need by donating laptops and gift certificates for school clothing for the new school year.
Gift certificates were purchased from Sidekicks, Gibbons Company and English Sports Shop in the amounts of $150 and $100 for school uniforms and school shoes. Approximately 12 families were recipient of the gift certificates.
Additionally two students from The Berkeley Institute were given laptops, which relieved their parents financially. Berkeley Institute students are required to have laptops at the start of S1.
Denise Simons, President, The Continental Society of Bermuda, says: “We decided to have a ‘Back to School’ initiative in which we would support various families in need with gift certificates for school uniforms and school shoes. These items can be extremely expensive for some parents and we wanted to relieve that financial burden for them. Every child deserves to go back to school looking pristine in their new school uniform and shoes, which builds pride and confidence. In everything we do we remember that these are our children, our commitment, our concern.”
The Continental Society of Bermuda is an affiliate chapter of the Continental Societies Incorporated, an international public service organization committed to improving the welfare of children in communities across the USA and Bermuda.
Founded in 1962 as charity number six, the Continental Society of Bermuda is supported by 100% volunteer membership of approximately 30 Bermudian women.
