As Today In Bermuda celebrates natural hair in all its beauty over the next month, we have chosen to feature an array of women who love their natural beauty. In the first installation, we have Joleesa Holdipp, 28, who is a fierce and fabulous mother of one, and owner of childrens boutique, Klassiq Kidz.

TIB: How would you describe your hair?

My hair is natural, thick, dark , big, most times 'nutty', frizzy, full and loves oils and gels !

TIB: Describe your relationship with your hair from 16 and up?

Ehhh, I've had a love hate relationship with my hair since the age of 16. It has been dyed, relaxed, weaved and cut off about 6/7 times in that time frame.

TIB: How old are you when you decided to go natural? Do you miss perming/texturising your hair?

I believe I first cut my hair at age 12/13. I was in middle school and I absolutely HATED it. The boys in my neighborhood called me Macy Grey,*Instant tears*  if you remember her. She had a thick natural afro. & to think, I  LOVE a thick natural afro now. I wont say that I miss perming it , but I do miss having straight here at times.

TIB: What do you love most about your hair?

I love that most days, I can wake up shake and GO. Oh & brush the baby hairs and edges. THEN Go...Lol

TIB: Your thoughts on parents perming their daughters' hair before they are teenagers?

What works for you, My mom first texturized my hair when I was 9 or 10 because it was TOO much for her to handle and......I may be in that same boat with my daughter, Yikes!

TIB: Why do you think the females are embracing their natural hair more than ever?

We are embracing who we really are, I feel like it’s a movement !

TIB: Have we moved past the "pretty hair/nappy hair" mindset?

Yes, I think we have. I totally despise the phrase "pretty hair". My mom told me when I was very young, there is no such thing as "pretty hair". Also the word, nappy hair doesn't come around to often anymore either. We are all just called NATURAL & I Love that!

TIB: Is there anyone who you really admire because of how they embrace their natural hair?

A friend of mine, Leah Mills. She's the natural hair guru! Twist outs, braid outs, to wash and go's.

TIB: Any bad experiences with you wearing your hair naturally?

Yes, I've learned Twist outs are not for me. I would rather my hair BIG and bushy. Twist outs lay flat. Not my thing :)

But I also have to remember that when wearing it "big and bushy" I have to clear it now and than because that also turns into a bad experience and a bathroom trash full of hair.

Joleesa, your hair is big and beautiful! You are lovely and a great inspiration to others to embrace their natural hair.
