In order to receive salvation for your soul, there must be repentance because of your soul. It is the soul realm that causes mankind to fall into sin. You are tempted, and you sin. The good news is that you do not have to remain in that fallen state because when you repent, you are choosing to take a stand.
Repentance means that you are sorry for what you did and you are making a choice NOT to do the same thing again.
You must understand that there is a difference between being sorry and repenting. You can be sorry for a mistake or sin, but you go back and repeat that sin. You were sorry; sorry that you got caught or sorry that you are suffering the consequences of that sin.
For example, many young women are sorry when they become pregnant, not because they had been fornicating but because now there is evidence or a manifestation of that fornication.
However, it is more purposeful to repent. When you repent, you will be able to continue your walk of divine destiny.
God’s people, Israel, lost their way, time and time again. They would love God, lust after other gods, fall into the consequences of betraying God, and then cry out to God again to restore them.
1 I am sought of them that asked not for me; I am found of them that sought me not: I said, Behold me, behold me, unto a nation that was not called by my name.
2 I have spread out my hands all the day unto a rebellious people, which walketh in a way that was not good, after their own thoughts;
In the text, God shows a picture of His chosen people rejecting Him.
In verse 1, God spoke to a people that He had not formally chosen to be His chosen people. They sought after Him and, therefore, He welcomed them into His fold. That group of people represents us -The Gentiles.
Then, in contrast in verse two, God spoke to His chosen people who rejected Him. The imagery is powerful, for it shows God standing with His arms wide open to welcome and embrace a people – His own people, but they rejected Him.
Those people, the ones who rejected God, had their own mind. They did not have the mind of God. According to their thoughts, they were free to come up with a different way of worship, contrary to the way God has deemed right.
Can you imagine not seeing your only child for months and when the time comes for you to welcome him or her back home, you stand with your arms wide open and your child ignores you and goes to a neighbor’s house? Wow! That should hurt a parent.
Well, God is hurting every moment of each day, as so many daily reject salvation, to enjoy another house and do things their way. That is indeed a lack of relationship, and where there is a lack of relationship, there will be a lack of closeness and genuine communication.
That is what constantly separated Israel from God. Israel admired other gods. Israel admired other nations. In fact, Israel put down their ways and legacy to pick up and lift up the ways of others. It is always dangerous when a people downplay his or her own culture and uplift another.
My hope and prayer for Bermuda is that Bermuda will see how faithful God is and how God always has His arms wide open to embrace His children. My prayer for Bermuda is that she will choose God and God alone, for real. You cannot choose God and other gods. God is not even in that competition. God is out!
In Bermuda, we have a need for change amongst so many. My question is, “Who is truly ready to repent?” When true repentance occurs, that nation or that people will reap the benefits of godly favor. God is well pleased when you decide to choose Him afresh. He stands waiting. Blessings Abound!
